The ultimate comfort food! A sticky Carolina BBQ Cheese Toast with Sautéed Onion and Plant-Based Chicken.
Half Pouch of Seriously Sound Carolina BBQ
4 Slices of Sourdough Bread
1 Medium-sized red onion, thinly sliced
1.5tbsp Sauerkraut
4 Slices of Vegan Cheese (or Emmental)
3tbsp Olive Oil
Pinch of Salt
1. Using your hands, shred the Seriously Sound plant-based chicken into smaller pieces and cook them with olive oil according to package instructions.
2. In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced red onion and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a pinch of salt and cook for 2-3 more minutes.
3. Heat a large frying pan over a medium heat.
4. Brush the external sides of your bread slices with olive oil, then start preparing the toasties with red onions, Cheese, plant-based chicken, sauerkraut and a bit more red onions. Place the toasties in the pan and fry them for 2-3 minutes on one side, pressing down with a spatula every so often. Carefully turn them over with the help of the spatula and a wooden spoon or a palette knife. Fry for 2-3 more minutes or until golden on both sides.
5. Optional: add a pinch of salt on top before serving. Enjoy!
